These very user-friendly collections are great resources for some ESL research assignments:

  • Opposing Viewpoints
    • Topic overviews and opinions on hundreds of today's most controversial social issues. Includes pro/con viewpoint essays
  • Biography in Context
    • More than 600,000 biographical entries — on more than 528,000 individuals — spanning history and geography.

  • Standard Deviants School ESL Series
    • 12 short videos help you learn the different parts of speech and new vocabulary words
  • English at Work Series
    • 20 short videos help you learn how English is spoken with lessons like "Introduce Yourself," "Describing People," "Apologizing," and "Encouraging Others."


General Interest streaming video collections
both of these collections include transcripts/subtitles for all of their movies
